Making Money Count - Cost Management in Pharma

Due to the current Covid-19 situation the PM CoP Benelux has changed the upcoming event into a virtual panel discussion on the 26th of November, 16h00 - 17h00.

Experienced professionals will give real-life examples and discuss their experiences and lessons learned regarding cost management in pharmaceutical projects. Learn from these professionals about current industry practices related to cost management and how to maintain projects within budget.

Panel members are Boudewijn Smolders (DACE, Dutch Association of Cost Engineers), Dries Vandevyvere (EMS, lecturer cost management) & Ief Leroy (VILS, polyvalent manager).

Registration required. Event is open for ISPE Members (free of charge) and Non-ISPE Members (10 €).

The GoToMeeting link to participate in the panel discussion will be sent to all registrants 1 day before discussion starts. Questions for the panel discussion can be either sent prior to the meeting or via the chat during the meeting.

Boudewijn Smolders: Cost Risk in Pharma projects? Cure that disease!

Boudewijn Smolders likes to support people and companies in the field of project controls and asset management. He was involved in developing cost estimation processes for FrieslandCampina Ingredients and was for six years responsible for all cost estimates for  investments from 1,5 million euro and higher, including projects for DFE Pharma.

Currently he is working as independent consultant for his own company Zuzeco, helping a custom super yacht builder to implement project control methodologies and improvement of cost estimation practices. He also is involved in formalizing and improving the turn-around process of a heat and power station. Last year he was asked by several companies to validate cost estimates for green field and brown field projects.

Finally Boudewijn has a passion for sharing knowledge concerning cost engineering, is board member of DACE (Dutch Association of Cost Engineers) and is co-developer of the DACE Certified Cost Engineer Program that was accredited by the International Cost Engineering Council.

Dries Vandevyvere: IT project cost management: going from Bio-tech to Pharma

Dries Vandevyvere is an experienced IT project and program manager. He has delivered successful projects and led teams in the chemicals, utilities, natural resources, bio-tech and pharma industry. He has worked on the SAP implementation for the first drug commercialisation at Ablynx, the system integration with Sanofi and most recently he is heading the SAP competence center at Galapagos. He is the founder of Proj3ctS and lecturer project management at the Ehsal Management School. 

When he is not at work, he enjoys outdoor activities and travelling with his wife and 2 daughters.

Ief Leroy: Comparing Apples to Oranges - Use of Benchmark in early stage CAPEX Estimates

Ief Leroy holds a master’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Antwerp, Belgium and a postgraduate in Business Administration from the University of Brussels, Belgium. He started his career as Process Engineer and project manager.

In 2009, he integrated his company into a large global engineering corporation and had increasing responsibilities onto the global level.

Together with his business partner Veerle, he co-founded VILS in 2014. VILS is a Project development company with inhouse Process Design, Process Architecture, Projectmanagement and Engineering capabilities. The company has a strong focus on Advanced Therapies such as mRNA, Viral Vector, Stem cell, NK, Immunotherapies among others.

Ief currently serves as Managing Partner for VILS, BILS and SKILS. He is Chairman of the Board of MyCellHub.com, a validated software solution to manage workflows in the LifeScience environment.

He is married and has lived and worked in multiple countries. The current base is Guelph, Ontario, Canada.
